For an institution, choosing a crypto exchange is an infrastructure decision. A promising product list means little if a large order moves the market, collateral sits idle or systems slow under pressure. Bybit Institutional is built around four connected pillars designed to address those needs: liquidity, frictionless trading, security and product innovation. Thousands of institutional clients use this infrastructure, which operates with 99.99% platform uptime. Together, these capabilities support the execution, capital efficiency and operational resilience professional firms require.
Key Takeaways:
Bybit gives institutions several ways to execute large or complex trades while limiting slippage and market impact.
Its unified account, financing and custody options give institutions more flexibility in how they deploy capital, manage margin and hold assets.
Institutional security and connectivity investments support greater transparency and resilience, while professional liquidity infrastructure can contribute to stronger market quality.
Large orders expose the difference between apparent liquidity and usable liquidity. Institutions need execution methods that can limit price impact and slippage, particularly when markets become volatile. Bybit offers three execution routes so firms can choose the right balance of privacy, size and market access.
Request for Quotation (RFQ) trading lets an institution request private quotes from several liquidity providers. Because the transaction takes place away from the public order book, the accepted quote has zero slippage and creates no visible market impact. Optional anonymity adds privacy for sensitive orders. RFQ supports Spot, Futures and Options, plus strategies with up to 25 legs. Preset combinations receive a 50% fee discount compared with executing each leg separately. The minimum notional value is $10,000.For larger negotiated transactions, institutional over-the-counter (OTC) trading supports block trades from $100,000. It gives firms competitive pricing while reducing the price impact that a large public order may cause.
Institutions can also execute directly across Bybit's public markets. These cover 519 Spot pairs and 939 Derivatives products across crypto and TradFi, including 694 crypto perpetual and futures contracts, 235 TradFi perpetual contracts, eight Options contracts and 544 contracts for difference (CFDs). The breadth gives firms room to run directional, hedged and multi-asset strategies within one ecosystem.RFQ and OTC trades do not directly deepen the public order book. However, offering these routes can attract professional firms that also trade and make markets on the exchange. Their public activity can contribute to deeper order books, tighter spreads and more efficient execution for other traders.
For an institution, unused collateral is an opportunity cost. Fragmented accounts can also slow teams down when markets move quickly. Bybit reduces these barriers by connecting capital, margin and products through one operating structure.
The Unified Trading Account (UTA) lets institutions manage Spot, Futures and Options positions together. Cross-utilization of funds and automatic borrowing reduce the need to transfer assets between separate accounts. Portfolio margin assesses risk across the combined portfolio and recognizes offsets between positions. This can reduce overall margin requirements for hedged strategies.
Institutional Loans extend that flexibility. Institutional Loans start from 1 million USDT, with up to 5x leverage and more than 20 borrowable cryptocurrencies. Collateral remains in the client’s UTA for active trading. Eligible firms may also access Bybit’s Interest-free Loan Program, subject to its terms and requirements.
Together, these tools help institutions put more capital to work with fewer operational steps. That efficiency can encourage greater trading and liquidity provision, which can support deeper markets for the wider Bybit community.
Institutions need more than a security claim. Investment committees, auditors and risk teams need clear custody choices, transparent reserves and independent evidence that controls work as designed.
Bybit supports several custody models to fit different governance requirements. Institutions can access custody options including Fireblocks, Zodia, Komainu, Sygnum, Copper, Cactus Custody and ByCustody. Bank triparty custody also lets eligible clients hold and manage collateral through regulated banking partners while using it for trading and settlement. These options give institutions greater flexibility to align trading access with their internal custody, governance and compliance requirements.
Some of the safeguards that support institutional trust also apply across the broader Bybit platform. Bybit segregates client assets from its operational funds and maintains a 1:1 reserve ratio for client assets. Its published Proof of Reserves gives clients visibility into asset backing.
Bybit overhauled its security architecture around a zero-trust model. The approach reduces concentration risk by distributing wallets across different architectures, increasing separation between local and global operations and avoiding dependence on a single wallet-management provider or system. For institutions, this reduces reliance on single points of failure and supports a more layered approach to asset protection.
Bybit’s SOC 2 Type II audit, performed by Deloitte, adds independent assurance to that security framework. Completed in September 2026, the audit assessed controls related to security, availability and confidentiality and found that they were suitably designed and operated effectively during the audit period. Together with Bybit’s existing ISO/IEC 27001 certification and PCI DSS compliance, it provides independent evidence of Bybit’s security governance and operational resilience to support institutional due diligence.
Regulatory milestones reinforce that trust. In October 2025, Bybit became the first crypto exchange to receive a full Virtual Asset Platform Operator License from the UAE Securities and Commodities Authority. Bybit also secured a Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation license in Europe in May 2025 and resumed full trading operations in India in February 2025.
Institutions gain custody arrangements suited to their operating models, while platform-wide measures such as reserve transparency, asset segregation and account-level security controls extend across the broader Bybit ecosystem.
Professional strategies compete on speed and consistency. Raw speed alone is not enough if latency becomes unpredictable during market stress. Bybit therefore develops dedicated infrastructure for firms that depend on reliable data and execution.
Its V5 application programming interface (API) gives institutions unified access to major products, higher rate limits and historical CSV market data for research and backtesting.
The Market Maker Gateway (MMGW), launched in September 2025, provides qualified market makers with a dedicated high-performance access point. MMGW has reduced round-trip latency for high-frequency and quantitative clients from 4 milliseconds to around 1.5 milliseconds, while its dedicated architecture is designed to provide more stable latency with fewer fluctuations. Eligible PRO 3 and MM2+ clients can receive up to 10 approved IP addresses or CIDR ranges. Quarterly reviews help maintain performance standards for participants.
Simple Binary Encoding (SBE), launched in June 2026, improves both sides of an automated trading workflow. Its binary WebSocket format lowers processing overhead compared with JSON. Market data includes real-time best bids and offers, a 20-millisecond Level 50 order book and public trades. Order entry supports single and batch creation, replacement and cancellation. A Fast Order channel streams order updates directly from the matching engine.
These investments help professional firms quote and react consistently during fast markets. The same focus on throughput and resilience supports reliable execution across the wider platform.
Strong execution still needs strong operations behind it. The INS Portal gives PRO users and market makers a central view of equity, fee structures and trading performance across accounts and subaccounts.
Self-service reports cover statements, profit and loss, transactions, deposits, withdrawals and loans. Firms can export them as PDF or CSV files, protect them with a password and email them to as many as 10 external auditors. This turns routine oversight into a repeatable process instead of a manual data exercise.
Bybit's Market Maker Incentive Program uses tiered rebates across Spot, Derivatives, Options and Fiat markets. Its three symbol groups reward liquidity provision where markets need it most. At the highest tiers, negative maker fees mean qualified firms are paid to provide liquidity. That incentive encourages continuous bids and offers, which can narrow the spreads other traders face.
Institutional clients can also reach Bybit customer service 24/7 in several languages, including English, Russian, Mandarin, Turkish and Arabic. This support matters when account or execution issues cannot wait for the next business day.
Institutional infrastructure matters beyond the institutions using it. The liquidity, safeguards and trading systems built to support professional capital also contribute to the resilience and market quality of Bybit's broader trading ecosystem. With thousands of institutional clients already using the platform, these capabilities have become an important part of Bybit's overall market infrastructure.
