Tapos (HEART): A Tickle-to-Earn Clicker Game on Aptos

Blockchain gaming is carving a niche for itself by merging playful interactions with monetary rewards. With the Telegram-based clicker game Notcoin going viral recently, more projects are coming up with similar games in a bid to replicate the former’s success. Tapos, a game built on the Aptos blockchain, stands out in this innovative field, introducing a unique element to digital entertainment through its virtual cats and interactive gameplay.

Key Takeaways:

• Tapos is a blockchain-based game that merges the concept of earning through gameplay with the charm of interacting with virtual pets, specifically cats, on Aptos.

• As a game, Tapos leverages the user's interactions with adorable virtual cats to generate HEART tokens, incorporating a fun factor with the potential for earnings.

What Is Tapos?

Tapos is a blockchain-based game that merges the concept of earning through gameplay with the charm of interacting with virtual pets, specifically cats, on the Aptos platform.

As a game, Tapos leverages the user's interactions with cute virtual cats to generate HEART tokens, incorporating a fun factor with the potential for earnings.

What Does Tapos Aim to Achieve?

Tapos is designed to increase blockchain engagement and demonstrate the technical prowess of the Aptos network. Its goals extend beyond simple entertainment, aiming to draw in users who might not typically engage with blockchain technology. By integrating game mechanics with token earnings, Tapos also aims to highlight the scalability and formidable transaction capabilities of the Aptos blockchain.

How Does Tapos Work?

Tapos operates on a straightforward mechanic, as players engage with the game by clicking on virtual cats, each click rewarding them with HEART tokens. This interaction does more than just accumulate tokens for the players: it contributes to a global tally that enhances the community aspect of the game, promoting a collective effort among all participants. You can view this global tally by clicking on the Leaderboard tab on the homepage.

To get started with Tapos, click on Start Now on the Tapos homepage. A wallet will be automatically generated for you. Be sure to copy your secret key and keep it safe, because this will be the key for you to restore your wallet in the future if necessary.

After your wallet has been generated, you’ll need to transfer APT tokens to the wallet’s address to pay the network fee before you can start tickling the Tapos Cat. (A total of 0.1 APT is enough for you to tickle the cat approximately 10,000 times!)

Each game session will last for a short period of time, with the first round of Tapos lasting three days. (It ended on May 25, 2024, but users who are interested in this project can stay tuned to Tapos’s X (formerly Twitter) account for more updates on future rounds.)

HEART Token

Users who tickle the Tapos Cat will be able to receive HEART token rewards. The amount received depends upon the number of tickles they’ve made in the game as compared to the total number of tickles of all players.

The Popularity of Tapos

Tapos has significantly boosted the profile of the Aptos blockchain (developed by former Facebook engineers) by demonstrating its capacity to handle an enormous volume of transactions seamlessly.

On the first day, Aptos recorded over 90 million transactions, which then escalated to more than 115 million transactions the following day (May 25, 2024), surpassing both its previous record and Solana's best at 31.7 million. This surge was largely fueled by the launch of Tapos, which contributed 10 million transactions in its debut. The game also attracted more users by eliminating gas fees for the first 72 hours.

Some skilled players ticked the Tapos Cat up to 15 times per second. This intense clicking resulted in more than 2,000 transactions per second (TPS) at times, greatly contributing to the high transaction volume recorded.

Tapos’s Phenomenal Volume

Over a three-day campaign, Tapos attracted 63,000 users, who generated over 323 million transactions. This translates to roughly 5,000 transactions per user — or about 1,700 transactions daily per user. Despite these high transaction numbers, there wasn't a notable increase in the number of active users on the Aptos network, suggesting that the spike in transactions was primarily driven by existing users engaging heavily with the Tapos game.

Inspired by the successful Telegram-based clicker game Notcoin, Tapos also records each interaction on the blockchain, contrasting with Notcoin’s model in which only token transactions are on-chain. Despite its success in transaction volume, Tapos hasn’t yet matched Notcoin’s player base or its broader impact on the gaming and crypto communities. However, the Tapos team has hinted at future developments, promising updates and new content for the game's most active players.

While there is some skepticism about the game's long-term impact, many see it as a proof of Aptos's robust capabilities and potential for growth. It also positions Aptos as a leader in the blockchain-based gaming space, capable of supporting complex operations and large user bases.

Closing Thoughts

Tapos represents an exciting blend of gaming and earning, setting a precedent in the blockchain gaming market. While it offers unique opportunities, enthusiasts and investors alike must approach it with caution and informed decision-making, given the inherent risks of the cryptocurrency market.
